Alexander Hayward

After attaining his B.Sc (Hons) in Zoology from the University of Glasgow, he attended Imperial College as part of his Master in Research (MRes) in Evolution, Ecology and Conservation. His previous work was in the epidemiology of Honey Bees (Apis mellifera) and the genetic mechanisms behind the fungal pathogen Bd.

As part of his Masters research at Imperial College London, he studied the evolution of the Guernsey Vole and other small mammals in the Channel Islands in regards to their apparent island gigantism.

His current research extends the study of small mammal evolution into genetics and onto other British Islands, as well as understanding the distribution of small mammal fauna across the Channel Islands.

Eleanor Scopes

Ellie Scopes graduated from the University of Oxford in 2017 with BA (Hons) in Biological Sciences, and is currently undertaking an MRes in Evolution, Ecology and Conservation at Imperial College London. Her previous research interests include population ecology of large African carnivores and temporal dynamics of Channel island birds.

In her Masters at Imperial College London, she investigated habitat use and population density of the small mammals of Guernsey, and in particular the Guernsey Vole. This provides baseline data for future conservation of these species.

Ellie has just started a PhD at the University of Exeter investigating dormouse conservation and forest management; aiming to identify techniques that will improve habitat suitability of forests for dormice to increase their population and distribution. She is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC GW4+) and the Forestry Commission.
